The management of Jimeta Clinic was yet to react to the development, just as the nurses on duty said they were not competent to comment on the matter

Ohakim withdraws from partisan politics
Unknown
The immediate past Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, yesterday announced “temporary withdrawal from active partisan politics”.
Ikedi Ohakim
Ohakim, who announced his current decision to scores of his supporters at his Okohia, Isiala Mbano local government area country home, however said: “ While we retreat to reformat, I shall devote my time to mentoring and working with the youths of my home state, Imo and indeed, Nigeria “.
While emphasizing that there was nothing behind the decision other than the need to have time to pursue other matters of terrestrial interest, outside partisan politics.
“Of course, I am not the only Nigerian, both within and outside the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and indeed among members of the political class, to so desire but even more enthusiastic about our collective democratic future was the ordinary Nigerian who, though desired a change from the status quo ante, still believed that for the needed balance, the PDP should remain strong,“ Ohakim said.
While lamenting that the party failed to key into this general optimism, “its key gladiators became overwhelmed by the burden of the defeat and failed to appreciate the goodwill it still had among Nigerians, despite the challenges of its 16-year long rule”.
“The final result was the split into two factions which have remained irreconcilable despite wise counsel from well-meaning quarters within and outside the party and indeed, despite pronouncements of the law”, Ohakim said.
Expressing regret that the party leaders have been taking deliberate steps to destabilize it, party faithful have also watched helplessly as the leaders undermine each other in pursuit of self-serving interests.
“Outside the PDP, the general political environment has not helped matters. Contrary to expectations of Nigerians that the political class has learnt the relevant lessons from the outcome of the 2015 general election, which is that the people’s preference must count, the latter has returned to the old antics of election rigging and violence”, Ohakim said.

Past govt failed to save for rainy day- Lai Mohammed
Unknown
Meanwhile, as more Nigerians complained of hardship, the Federal Government has continued to blame past administrations for the current economic crisis that has left many families struggling to feed and to survive.
Lai Mohammed
The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who spoke at the just concluded 2016 edition of the All Nigeria Editors Conference in Port Harcourt said that Nigerians are suffering today because past governments did not properly manage the country’s oil wealth.
According to him, “Nigeria’s economy is hard hit by the fall in the price of crude oil because the country failed to save for the rainy day while the previous governments also failed to invest in infrastructure. Nigerians should know that people are suffering today because previous administrations did not save.
“Nigeria has nothing to rely on to cushion the effects of the lost earnings. Many other oil producing countries and fellow OPEC members are faring better, because they saved for the rainy day. Saudi Arabia, with about one fifth of Nigeria’s population, has in foreign reserves about 600 billion dollars (which is 23 times what Nigeria has in foreign reserves).
“United Arab Emirates, with less than 10 million people, has 75 billion dollars in foreign reserves. Qatar, with 2.4 million people, has 36 billion dollars in foreign reserves. Even Angola, with just 24 million people, has about 25 billion dollars in foreign reserves.
“We are not saying we should continue to lament about missed opportunities, the massive corruption or profligacy of the past, but it is important for Nigerians to know where and when the rain started beating them; that no provision was made for any umbrella to shield them from the elements, and that indeed genuine efforts are now being made to turn things around.
We must give hope to our people, while also giving encouragement to those who are working non-stop to revamp our economy,” he said.
